Briefly, let me introduce myself. I was born in Detroit and graduated from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) and obtained a law degree from Michigan State University. Following graduation, I moved into the worlds of newspapers and later corporate communications, and I’m no stranger to crisis PR and the need to keep a cool head under pressure. I began my career as a newspaper reporter writing for publications that included the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Detroit Free Press (at a time when nearly a million people bought the paper daily). Moving to the corporate side, I have held senior leadership positions with major global corporations including Alibaba Group, Ford Motor Company, Gateway Computers, and The Walt Disney Company, and my responsibilities have run the gamut from corporate communications and corporate affairs to government relations, legal and regulatory affairs, internal communications, and business development. I also served as a product litigation attorney for Ford Motor Company. In 2001, I also worked briefly to support San Diego City Schools initiatives as chief communications officer.
Family has always been my priority, so please allow me to introduce my wife Lacey Logan who is herself a decades-long veteran of corporate PR and marketing who once led communications for the nation’s third-largest brewery as well as served as senior communications counsel to major corporations in California and abroad. She is a dedicated civic volunteer who has made a difference at numerous non-profits both in Michigan and here in Del Mar and San Diego, a great mom and a gourmet cook (I do the dishes, and it’s worth it). We’ve been married for 30+ years.
Lacey, our two children and I relocated to San Diego’s Carmel Valley in 1999. Following retirement from Alibaba, we purchased our Del Mar home in 2015. Since then, I had the privilege of serving the broader community in a series of volunteer roles.
I was appointed by the Del Mar City Council to the Planning Commission in July 2023 and served before that on the Council’s Traffic & Parking Advisory Committee. I have also volunteered for several groups focused on mentoring and growing local initiatives including the Chairmen’s RoundTable, Social Venture Partners and a research project for Feeding San Diego.
Lacey and I truly love living in Del Mar and want to do whatever is necessary to protect and enhance this beautiful community. Our children, Matt and Kelsey, who were raised in Carmel Valley and attended the local public schools including Torrey Pines and Canyon Crest high schools, are now adults. With Matt and his wife Natalie now in Los Angeles and Kelsey in Little Italy, we are lucky to have them all living so close to us that we can all be together frequently.
